Lyon Strikes Again In The Windy City

  • PDF

After celebrating the Memorial Day weekend, the S.T.A.R.S. drivers headed to the windy city to try capturing the reins of Chicagoland.  Everyone must have been ready to get out of the house as 42 drivers took the green on the tricky Chicagoland mile and a half.  Once the grid was set, Danny Hansen had stormed to yet another pole and would be looking to capitalize on his qualifying pace to finally bag a win at the checkered flag.  The field was bound to be close all night as the top 25 on the grid were seperated by only half a second.

When the smoke settled... quite literally... survival ended up being the name of the game and pit strategy would not play a factor like it normally does at Chicagoland Speedway. Toby Jenkins would jump Hansen for an early lead and dominate the beginning stages of the race.  Jenkins lead a race high 56 laps to pick up a bonus point before being involved in an incident in the latter stages. Nine different drivers would cycle through the lead of the field, which would eventually end with DJ Lyon crossing the line first for his second win of the season.  The rest of the top five were Josh Connors, Mike Kelley, Dominic Carelli, and Chris Williams.

Lyon now carries a 13 point championship lead to the pine covered hills of South Carolina where he and the other S.T.A.R.S. drivers will next take on the infamous Lady in Black.
